In the News: US officials face big visa overstay record backlog – South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

US officials face big visa overstay record backlog – South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com.

Today’s Sun Sentinel in Broward County Florida published an interesting article on the numbers of visitors entering the U.S. who remain in the country by overstaying their visas. The number is staggering, an estimated 4 million to 5.5 million immigrants in all and 1.6 million since January 2011, and if the immigration authorities were to identify and pursue these persons the court system could be flooded with cases. Persons wishing to adjust their status should seek legal advice from a qualified attorney.

The first six states to implement the new system are Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, Mississippi, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

DREAM Act gets to the Senate

Development, Relief and Education for Alien Mi...

Image via Wikipedia

The DREAM Act passed in the House of Representatives yesterday and is going to the vote in the Senate today where passage may be more problematic. Passage would aid beleaguered undocumented aliens who are college students or who want to give military service but opponents see the act as a form of undeserved amnesty for illegal aliens. So after the vote, the DREAM Act will either be chucked out or become a reality.
